Heritage Trail
Two self-guided trails are available for those who wish to explore the varied architecture, streets and public spaces of Dorking town centre.
Featured buildings are marked with special plaques telling the story of places, buildings or people that had an influence on the development of Dorking. The plaques are marked with the town’s emblem – the five-toed Dorking cockerel.
Both trails begin and end at St Martin’s Church. The first trail explores the east end of the town and is full of contrasts. Buildings featured range from the 16th century to the 1980s and the tour includes the bustling high street and the quieter corners of Cotmandene and Meadowbank.
The second trail explores the west end of the town, taking in all of the principal streets of North Street, High Street, South Street and West Street.
The trails can be completed as part of a visit to Dorking and they are an excellent introduction to the history behind the bricks and mortar.
